Wanaka

The Wanaka sub-region enjoys a high profile despite being just 3% of the plantings. Rippon Vineyard’s stunning view running down to crystal-blue depths of Lake Wanaka and its mountainous backdrop has been used to represent New Zealand wines on the world map. Wetter and cooler than the Cromwell Basin, and site selection is paramount in producing good wines in this area. The two best known vineyards are Rippon, and Mount Maude in the Maungawera Valley between Lakes Wanaka and Hawea.but there also plantings near Luggate
