MULITPLE INTERNATIONAL TROPHY SCOOP FOR CENTRAL OTAGO PINOT NOIR
18 June 2008:
Hot off the web today is fantastic news for Wild Earth Wines from Central Otago. Wild Earth Pinot Noir 2006 has taken 4 trophies including International Pinot Noir Trophy at the most prestigious wine event of the year, the International Wine Challenge in London.
The IWC web site lists three other trophies for this wine: New Zealand Red Trophy, New Zealand Pinot Noir Trophy, Central Otago Pinot Noir Trophy.
The IWC's 400 plus judges, including 20 expert Panel Chairmen, spent 2 weeks intensively tasting wines from 40 different countries. Each wine was given the time and thought it deserved to guarantee results of the highest standard.
The result caps a remarkable run of successes for Wild Earth Pinot Noir 2006, including the recent announcement of the Trophy for Top New Zealand Pinot Noir at the Decanter World Wine Awards in London. This competition is the world's largest with over 9,000 entries and is regarded as the toughest wine judging event globally.
The awards are also further confirmation for the quality of Central Otago pinot noirs. Gibbston Valley Reserve Pinot Noir 2000 and Bald Hills Pinot Noir 2005 have both previously won the IWC trophy for Best International Pinot Noir (arguably thats makes them best in the in the World at least within the IWC competition). Incidently both wines were made by Grant Taylor who has recently been appointed winemaking consultant for Wild Earth Wines.
This wine is available now at otagowine.com, but don't expect to see it around for long...

MORE ABOUT WILD EARTH
Wild Earth Wines is a family owned winemaker with 35 hectares of estate vineyards in two of Central Otago's finest locations – in Bannockburn overlooking the Kawarau River and in the north Lowburn district. Wild Earth's philosophy is careful, gentle handling of the fruit and the developing wine blends to allow a true expression of terroir. The vines are hand-tended for very low yields on a minimal input, sustainable basis, guided by an organic approach commenced in 2006 in order to minimise the vineyard's environmental footprint.
Wild Earth's sole objective is to create the finest pinot noir, riesling and pinot gris that its two vineyard sites can produce.
Michelle Richardson was consultant to the winemaker for the 2006 vintage.
