Consultant winemaker and viticulturist Russell Lake has worked in Australia, Germany, USA and France and after returning to New Zealand managed the vineyards and made the wine at Rippon Vineyard in Central Otago.

Russell has a background in industrial engineering, B Tech (Industrial) from Massey University, and also Dip. Dairy Sci and Technology - and worked for some time in the New Zealand dairy industry. He decided to have a change of career having been always interested in wine organising a wine tasting group whilst at University and so completed a Bachelor of Oenology (Hons) at the University of Adelaide. He has since worked in the wine industry in New Zealand, Australia, USA, France and Germany and now has his own company, Lake Wine Services Ltd.

Russell is currently consultant winemaker at Christine Lorraine Cellars (Central Otago, New Zealand) and Lion Valley Vineyards (Oregon, USA), and specialises in the growing and production of cool climate winegrape varieties including Pinot Noir and Riesling.
