Felton Road's winemaker Blair Walter trained at Lincoln University where he completed a Bachelor of Horticultural Science with First Class Honours. In his final year Blair took classes from the post-graduate course in Viticulture and Oenology, and completed an Honours Dissertation. He spent a year prior to this at Oregon State University where he was involved in their viticulture programme and wine sensory evaluation panels.

Blair has made wine throughout New Zealand, Australia California, Oregon & Burgundy. He has been winemaker at Felton Road since December 1996. His 1997 Pinot Noir gained a silver medal at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards.
