CROMWELL BASIN -Lowburn-Wanaka Road-Pisa Flats

Starting from Cromwell, where the newly planted Wooing Tree Vineyard is overlooked by the more established Mount Michael Vineyard, grape vine plantings have mushroomed all the way along the Wanaka Road as well as hidden away up the Lowburn Valley and other valleys where the backdrop is the Pisa Range. In the Lowburn Valley are Dunford Vineyard, Packspur Vineyard, and Lowburn Ferry, whose name represents the history of the small township which thrived at Lowburn last century at the place where the ferry or punt crossed the Clutha River and the latter days when a bridge (now under Lake Dunstan) brought traffic from the eastern side of the Clutha. Further along the Wanaka Road is the Pisa Flats area - home of Pisa Range Estate and Kawarau Estate, and also vast plantings by some of the newer label wineries: Amisfield, Rockburn.
