Rippon Vineyard

Rippon Vineyard As one of the pioneer grape growers and winemakers in Central Otago since 1974, Rolfe and Lois Mills fulfilled their dream of having a vineyard on their magnificent lakeside site. Nature works real magic at Rippon; the vineyard produces wines with an elegance and finesse that have received accolades both in New Zealand and abroad.

Barbequed gourmet picnic lunches are available in the vineyard in January-February, and the vineyard is open for tasting and cellar door sales 11am-5pm December until April.

RIPPON VINEYARD
Pinot Noir 2007 $52.95
Qty:
Time spent deep within Rippon's soils has allowed these mature vines to speak of their place with true clarity; layered and detailed, poised rather than laden and a genuine tension between finesse and compressed power. After two winters (15 months) of barrel maturation, this wine was run into bottle without fining or filtering; cellaring or decanting recommended.
RIPPON VINEYARD
Jeunesse Young Vines Riesling 2006 $21.95
Qty:
As with the Jeunesse Pinot Noir, this is a wine of exuberance and life; this is a riesling that speaks of its variety, of its fruit and not yet of its soils. As such, it is a wine best enjoyed in its youth. It is, like all Rippon wines, a single vineyard wine that has been grown and produced biodynamically, and is fermented by indigenous yeasts.
RIPPON VINEYARD
Riesling 2007 $30.95
Qty:
Riesling shows its noble roots in this pure and precise expression of fruit and minerality. This wine was fermented by the property's resident yeast population and left in contact with its primary lees for 12 weeks. Foliated, layered and focussed; relective of the silica laden soils from where it is issued. Ready now, but with correct cellaring will certainly be rewarded.
RIPPON VINEYARD
Jeunesse Young Vines Pinot Noir 2006 $35.95
Qty:
A true pinot noir as opposed to a true Rippon. Not yet old enough to fully recount the complexity of their soils, vines in their youth (or Jeunesse) produce fruit that remains a pure and precise expression of Pinot Noir, the variety. As such, this wine is much like a child’s crayon drawing: vibrant, colourful and full of fruit laden fun.
RIPPON VINEYARD
Gewurztraminer 2008 $31.95
Qty:
With maturing vines and the first really favourable year for Gewurz since 2003, this wine speaks with real accuracy and pride of its place. This, along with slow, whole bunch pressings, wild ferments and extended lees contact, has resulted in a wine which is defined by remarkable grace and clarity.
RIPPON VINEYARD
Sauvignon blanc 2008 $23.95
Qty:
40% of this wine was fermented in barrel, not for the oak, but for the form of the vessel itself. Mouth feel is gained here by high lees to wine contact and a more efficient natural lees stirring across unhurried wild ferments.
