Aurum Wines Ltd. was established by Joan and Tony Lawrence in 2002 to produce premium Central Otago wines from a new winery near Cromwell.
Premium Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Riesling are grown on Aurum's two vineyards.
The 45th Parallel Vineyard (5½ ha. planted) situated on fluvial glacial terraces below the Pisa Range at Lowburn was planted in 1997 and 1998.
Development of Te Wairere Vineyard 2 km from Cromwell began in 2002, and a renovated 1920s cottage was opened as a tasting facility in 2005, and a new winery was opened on the site in 2006.
Winemakers are Brook Lawrence and his wife Lucie Pouthier-Lawrence.
Brook trained in Australia at Adelaide University and did three vintages at Norman’s Wines Clarendon. He has also worked two vintages in France at Domaine De L’Arlot in Burgundy and Cleebourg in Alsace as well as at Chard Farm in Central Otago.
Lucie is a graduate in oenology from Dijon University with vintages in Nuit St Georges and Meursault in Burgundy and also Alsace.

AURUM WINES Pinot Gris 2009 $24.95

The palate is supple and ripe with intense pear, quince and tropical fruit flavours; this wine is soft and full bodies with a rich creamy mouthfeel supported by a mineral backbone and a long lingering aftertaste.

AURUM 18 Carat Pinot Gris 2009 (375ml) $31.95

Noble Rot developed on these grapes under the influence of warm rain followed by foggy nights and dry sunny days. The resulting desert wine is clear pale straw in colour, the bouquet is intense quince and orange flower blossom. The palate is succulent and honeyed; this wine exhibits orange blossom, dried apricot and ripe grapefruit flavours with a long clean finish. Climate Perfect with desserts and foie gras, but also with strong cheeses or as an aperitif. Winestate 4 stars

AURUM WINES PINOT NOIR 2008 $31.95

Colour: Fine ruby red. Bouquet: A harmonious nose with red berry fruit notes and integrated oak. Palate: Sweet berry fruit flavours, savoury and spicy with soft, silky tannins and a generous long finish

AURUM WINES CHARDONNAY 2007 $21.95

Whole bunch pressed and fermented in French oak barrels (25% new) with selected french yeasts. Pale straw in colour, this wine has a bouquet of ripe white peaches with notes of mandarin together with toasty well integrated oak. A full bodied fruit driven wine with a rich creamy mouthfeel supported by a mineral backbone and long lingering aftertaste.

AURUM WINES Riesling 2007 $19.25

This wine has a complex nose of lifted lime and citrus aromas with floral scents and a spice background. Very concentrated citrus and tropical fruit notes on the palate have an underlying complexity of spices. A tight mineral edge is finely balanced with a hint of sweetness, and a long finish.
